In anticipation of Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) Certification and future competitive funding rounds, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is hosting Capital Improvement Training’s for community representatives. The content to be featured was developed by the Michigan Associate of Planning (MAP).

Starting a Business Workshop – Petoskey

The Starting a Business Workshop is intended for individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment. Delivered in a workshop format, this introductory session helps aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company, as well as evaluate market and sales potential for their products/services. Start-up costs, financing options, and business planning are introduced, along with necessary steps to getting started. This workshop is held in partnership with North Central Michigan College, features instruction by SBDC Business Consultant Kathleen Bagley, and is a pre-requisite to meeting with a SBDC consultant one-on-one. MI Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs announces FY18 grant workshops
The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) announced its grant program workshop schedule for Fiscal Year 2018 programs.
“As the arts and cultural field continues its unprecedented growth in Michigan, the grant programs we are offering to the field are becoming more competitive every year,” said MCACA Executive Director John Bracey. “These workshops offer organizations an opportunity to learn how to be successful at a grant review.”
MCACA will be conducting free informational workshops on grant guidelines and the application process for potential applicants throughout the state in March and April in anticipation of the June 1, 2017 deadline. Workshop attendance is not required for grant applicants; Pre-registration or RSVPs are not required.

Regional Workshop – Potential Impacts on Local Communities

Advanced vehicle technologies and new mobility services will have profound impacts on transportation systems and beyond. Communities across Michigan are seeking resources and information regarding the future of transportation.
To help Michigan communities prepare for tomorrow’s mobility, the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) is conducting a series of regional workshops, with support from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).
In April, CAR will conduct workshops in four locations across Michigan to share its research on the potential implications, challenges, and benefits of connected and automated vehicle technologies and new mobility services (e.g., carsharing, ridehailing, bikesharing, etc.) for local communities and organizations, and to obtain feedback from workshop participants.
The agenda includes:

- Presentation of potential impacts of connected vehicle technology on road infrastructure, traffic congestion, safety, and transportation systems
