NLEA’s services to employers aim to break down barriers that impede success and growth, as well as help them seize important opportunities. We are your go-to resource, whether it’s to secure funding to purchase new equipment, navigate incentives to reduce the cost of expanding a facility, connect with other business leaders, or navigate infrastructure and development. We have a team of economic and development professionals ready to assist you.
We Offer the Following Services to Businesses
Serve as your local go-to resource
If you are looking for support to grow and succeed, we are your local go-to resource in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, and Emmet Counties, whether you’re an existing business or in the process of starting a business. If we can’t address your challenge directly, we know who can. We work with a variety of local, regional, state, and national partners that offer resources and tools to support your efforts. We will match you to the appropriate partners and programs depending on your needs, saving you time and money.
Package Applications and Administer Grants
We support businesses interested in securing competitive grants and loans for equipment upgrades, sit readiness, physical expansion, and more. We can write, package, and administer grants from private, local, state, and federal partners (e.g., MEDC, MDARD, EDA, USDA, etc.) to support your success and growth.
Secure Tax Abatements for Business Expansion
Under Michigan law, several financial incentives exist to support business location and expansion. Our team is experience in providing support applying for and navigating through the process for tax abatements, tax credits, opportunity zones, and local incentives for expansion and site rehabilitation.
Identify Available Properties/Sites to Locate Your Business
NLEA monitors and manages site opportunities across our four-county service area and can help guide your search.
Navigate Multi-Jurisdictional Land and Infrastructure Issues
When locating or expanding your brick-and-mortar business, it’s not uncommon to encounter hurdles related to infrastructure and jurisdictional boundaries. We have experience working closely with local governments and utility providers to meet the needs of businesses for water, sewer, broadband, and energy.
Provide Business Intelligence
We frequently provide businesses support in compiling and presenting data to help them strategize or make the case for expansion and growth.
Host Educational Events, Training, and Industry Groups
In addition to our core technical assistance services, we provide educational, networking, and solutions-focused industry group opportunities in partnership with other organizations. This helps ensure our region’s business and community leaders are well-connected and attune to important policy and economic trends that impact their business.
